Toyota leads the pack in Motorist Choice Awards

Japanese automaker nabs 10 of 30 awards in consumer survey

Irvine, Calif. -- Going for cute? Get a VW Beetle or the Volvo C30, if you can afford it.
If sexy is the motor image you're seeking, pick a Corvette or Audi A5.

And if the bottom line is your prime mover in looking for a car -- and you value other people's opinions -- buy a Honda Fit or Lexus RX Hybrid.
They were among the top picks in this year's Motorist Choice Awards, chosen by actual car buyers. They're the result of 42,000 consumer surveys and data collected by IntelliChoice, which analyzes automotive ownership cost and car values, and the automotive research firm AutoPacific.
A first for this year, the awards were broken up into 15 popular lifestyle categories that shoppers easily identify with, rather than the alternatives based on vehicle size, price and other such factors.
Each category had two picks: one "popular" and one "premium."
"From an emotional standpoint these awards are a reflection of how cars fit into people's daily lives, the tasks they fulfill on a day-to-day basis and the image people have of their vehicles," IntelliChoice Executive Editor Charlie Vogelheim said in a statement. "The cars in these categories not only represent tremendous value, they are also about the image you want to portray to other motorists as well."
"Rather than grouping these cars into stereotypical categories like 'best sedan,' we produced a list of the best cars buyers would themselves categorize, like 'most kid friendly,' " added George Peterson President of AutoPacific. "These awards are a good reflection of the perceptions of the American consumer; showing what they want to drive and why they want to drive it."
Despite a torrent of bad publicity stemming from recalls, Lexus and its parent company, Toyota, came away with 10 of a possible 30 awards for this year's field chosen by motorists. The automaker swept categories including "city car" and "eco-friendly" with their Lexus and Toyota offerings. Other notable awards included Hyundai's new luxury car, the Genesis, earning top marks in the "country club" category for popular brands. Team Heintz Toyota participated in the 38th Annual March for Babies. The walk took place April 25th, 2010 at Wheeler Park in North Mankato. Heintz employees raised $700.00 to help the organization's goal of $64,000. The Walk for Babies is the March of Dimes' biggest fundraiser of the year. The money that was raised will help fund lifesaving research and educational programs. The goal is to help moms have healthy babies by working to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

True to its roots, the 2010 4Runner is rugged and ready. It comes in SR5, Limited and Trail grades and three drivetrains: rear-wheel two-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive and full-time multi-mode four-wheel drive. Large diameter aluminum alloy wheels and tires (17 inch for SR5 and Trail and 20 inch on the limited) improve off-road performance, as does the A-TRAC (Active Traction Control) and Downhill Assist Control systems now standard on all four-wheel-drive models.
And the Trail grade 4Runner takes its ability to tackle any landscape seriously, offering a superior angle of approach and departure, high ground clearance and an array of functional upgrades for the most demanding outdoor enthusiasts. Features include standard CRAWL Control, a Multi-Terrain Select system that allows the driver to dial in wheel slip control and an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which permits more axle travel and better suspension articulation in tough terrain.
Powering two-wheel-drive models is either a 157 horsepower 2.7 – liter four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission (available only on SR5 grade) or a 4.0-liter V-6 paired with a five-speed automatic.
Four-wheel-drive models get the five-speed automatic transmission/4.0 –liter V-6 configuration. Pumped up for 2010, the V-6 engine delivers 270 horsepower – more than the V-8 available on the previous generation - and 278 lb.-ft. of torque. And even as it delivers muscle and hustle, the V-6 improves its fuel efficiency rating by five percent for an EPA estimate of 19 mpg combined.
Fuel economy also gets a boost thanks to smart design – aerodynamic drag co-efficient has decreased significantly to 0.365.
Intelligent composition also made its way inside to produce a cabin as clever as it is comfortable. An Eco-Driving feedback system allows the driver to manage fuel consumption in real time while a sculpted front seat back increases knee space for second row passengers. The optional third-row seat is easier to access and cargo space is more abundant, without the hassle of removing seats.
The 2010 4Runner offers a solid base of safety options. Standard features include eight airbags and the Toyota Star Safety System (Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist). A new system, Safety Connect, is available by subscription.
